What Forney voters will be deciding with the Rec Center & Library Election:

What the $49.5 million Forney Rec Center & Library Election would provide, if approved by voters:

YMCA recreation, fitness & wellness opportunities for residents.

The proposed recreation center, managed by the YMCA, would provide indoor space for a variety of recreational, fitness, and wellness activities. Potential uses could include youth and adult sports, exercise classes, fitness programs, health and wellness activities, aquatics, camps, and other programs designed for residents at different stages of life.

Dedicated space for youth, families, adults & seniors.

The proposed facility would create additional space for organized activities, classes, events and community programs. Youth, families, adults and seniors could use the center for recreation, group activities, social programs, special events and other opportunities.

Space for mentoring programs for children & teens.

The proposed recreation center could provide space for mentoring programs for at-risk children and teens involving community partners. Specific programs would be determined based on community input and the advice of YMCA professionals.

A library for reading, learning, technology & educational programs.

The proposed library could provide reading materials, computers and technology, research resources, literacy programs, educational classes, study areas, and other learning opportunities. Programs could also include technology instruction and educational or community programs for seniors.

Potential program offerings for the proposed rec center & library:

Youth Sports • Adult Recreation • Fitness Classes • Senior Programs • Youth Center • After-School Activities • Aquatics Programs • Health & Wellness • Family Activities • Youth Mentoring • Early Learning • Story Time • Literacy Programs • Teen Programs • Computer & Technology Access • Educational Classes • Study Areas • Meeting Spaces • Community Workshops • Special Events

For the recreation center, voter-approved bonds would fund the facility, not the internal programs. The YMCA, community partners, grants, and other available funding sources would support program costs, not bond funds. For the library, the bonds will fund the facility, while general revenue will pay for day-to-day operations and programs.
